If you are looking for a real lunch or dinner treat, visit Nepal Restaurant, located on the downtown corner of East Main street, and Uncompahgre Avenue in Montrose. Now don’t be fooled by the modest decor surrounding you, as you will be waited on in true eastern style hospitality, and enjoy some of the most enlivening, rich flavors known to man. The food is not spicy, it’s spiced. If you are into culinary experiences of intense and complex palates, then this is the place to be!

A few selections you are likely to find around the lunch hour buffet include basmati rice, saag, tikka, chicken vindaloo, chicken makani, padoka, vegetable curry stir fry, and or course, naan bread. To fully appreciate the experience, have a cup of chai tea; the national drink of India and Nepal. At dinner, the menu takes off with a real display of the chef’s ability to capture the essence of Nepal’s Cuisine, in which you will find various traditional preparations of vegetables, tofu, lamb, chicken, and beef. While lunching here together not long ago, my father, who recently returned from North Eastern India confessed, “This is better Indian/Nepalese food than you are likely to get in India!”

Be ready for intriguing conversations with the proprietors. The establishment is owned by two young Nepalese gentlemen, who grew up at the base of the Himalayas. You may be welcomed to sign the guest book, and hear of insightful nuances concerning their country. Namaste!
